At the grocery store, I was looking at the wine section and saw a small bottle of Weight Watchers wine. Yes, Weight Watchers. Only one point for a glass. It made me laugh, so of course I had to buy it.
Finally, all this G-20 stuff was obviously a really big deal here. Because of the protesters, some people interning in Westminster or Canary Warf (where all of the big financial companies are) were told by their bosses not to come to work. In the London Lite, the tabloid I read on the Tube, I read that a lot of bosses at these companies have advised their employees to "disguise" themselves by dressing more casually. I haven't been anywhere near the protests, but I did see someone outside my Tube stop holding a sign that said something about not wanting to pay for other people's mistakes (Yes, that's right, let's just let all the banks close and force a bunch of people out of their homes... that won't cause any problems at all).
I was really excited about the Obamas being in town, and when I saw an article about JK Rowling being at the wives' dinner with the Queen I was like AAAAH. Unfortunately, no run-ins. Last night, though, I went for a walk in Hyde Park with my friend Natalie and we went down by the Princess Di memorial fountain (which actually looks like a lazy river; I think they could have made something much nicer for her) and when we were crossing the street to go back, a cop came by on a motorcycle and asked us and the group behind us not to cross for a minute. Obviously, someone important was coming. The procession was really tiny, only a couple of cars and, like, two policemen, so it obviously wasn't Obama. It was probably some leader's wife. I kind of wish I was closer to all the action, but it's probably better that I'm not, because some of those anarchists are crazy.
